Leticia Forney Resch (She/Her/Hers)  is a Mixed race Black woman of African American, Chumash and Latinx heritage. Leticia’s multicultural home and family  provides her with a unique perspective and insight into the makeup of Santa Barbara. As a  fourth generation Santa Barbarian, Leticia has seen firsthand the attempted erasure of the Black and Brown community but has remained constant in her commitment to mothering in community.

Leticia earned her Bachelors in Film and Media Studies at the University California, Santa Barbara. Throughout her studies she observed the dehumanization of the Black body in film and considered the lack of representation of diverse Black empathic communities and families. She brought this same introspection to her professional career as an event planner and creative director. Leveraging over 10 years of experience and development, Leticia has moved to create access and opportunities for diverse artists and creatives of color.

As a co-organizer with Healing Justice SB,  Leticia uses her artistic vision to create more equitable and empathetic communities for Black, Indigneous and other people of color. By supporting all artists of all mediums and levels; Leticia creates space for creatives previously hindered by the barriers and gatekeeping of exclusive art galleries and political elite. Some of her recent community art pieces have included “Say Their Names” a memorial to those lost to injustices and “Chocolate Baby Story Time”, a celebration of Black centered storytelling and kinship keeping.  Leticia’s work highlights local Black artists and talent; celebrating  Black culture as a means to uplift the Black community. She works tirelessly to provide opportunities for representation, affirmation and recognition. At her core, Leticia believes that Black/African American people are deserving of joy, love, respect, acceptance and support.
